BMW will launch the facelifted 7 Series and i7 luxury sedans in India on September 11. The updated models, which were first shown internationally in April 2026, feature exterior styling tweaks, a significantly revised interior with Neue Klasse-inspired technology, and upgrades to both combustion and electric powertrains.

Powertrain and performance updates

The report states that while BMW has not confirmed final India specifications, the international models provide a strong indication. The petrol-powered 740i is now called the 740 xDrive and uses a 3.0-litre, six-cylinder turbo-petrol engine. It now produces 400hp and 580Nm. The 740d continues with its 3.0-litre diesel engine, now making 313hp and 670Nm, gains of 27hp and 20Nm.

The electric i7 models receive substantial updates. The eDrive50 is now the 50 xDrive and switches from rear-wheel to all-wheel drive. It gets a larger 112.4kWh battery, up from 101.7kWh. Its dual-motor setup produces 445hp and 660Nm. BMW claims a WLTP range of 727km, an increase of 103km. The performance-oriented i7 M70 xDrive also gets the larger battery. Its output rises to 680hp, a 30hp increase, while torque remains at 1,015Nm. Its claimed range grows by 62km to 686km.

It remains unclear if BMW will offer a plug-in hybrid variant in India. Internationally, the model is available with PHEV powertrains, including the 612hp M760e xDrive. The report notes that rival Mercedes-Benz already sells a plug-in hybrid S-Class in the country.

Exterior and interior redesign

Exterior changes are described as subtle. The front features a boxier grille with new horizontal elements and an illuminated surround. The split LED headlights are updated with slimmer daytime running lights. The side profile is largely unchanged save for new alloy wheel designs, while the rear gets updated wraparound taillights and a cleaner bumper design.

The cabin receives the most significant updates. The highlight is the new Panoramic iDrive system, which replaces the traditional digital instrument cluster with a full-width display at the base of the windscreen. A new 17.9-inch central touchscreen and a 14.6-inch front passenger display run the latest Operating System X.

Other interior upgrades include a new four-spoke steering wheel and an expanded ambient lighting system. The optional rear-seat Theatre Screen has grown to 31.3 inches with an 8K resolution and supports video calls and streaming. Screens in the rear doors now allow control of the Theatre Screen's position and other cabin functions. BMW has also repositioned the automatic door controls for greater convenience.

Expected pricing

Prices are expected to rise significantly. The outgoing 7 Series petrol and diesel variants were priced at Rs 1.85 crore (ex-showroom), while the i7 ranged from Rs 2.10 crore to Rs 2.58 crore. Autocar India reports that the updated styling, added technology, and powertrain changes will likely lead to a considerable price increase for both models.
