Kia Sorento India trims, engines leaked
A leaked dealer document reveals the variant structure for the upcoming Kia Sorento in India, set to launch on September 4.
Ahead of its launch on September 4, a leaked variant list details how Kia could structure the Sorento lineup in India. The document, shared by automotive enthusiast Adarsh Tomar, reveals the SUV will be offered in HTE, HTE(O), HTK, HTK(A), HTX, HTX(A), and Black-line trims.
Both diesel and hybrid powertrain options are confirmed, along with front-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations. Buyers will also have a choice between six-seater and seven-seater layouts across the variant range.
Powertrain and Drivetrain Options
The diesel Sorento will use a 2.2-litre engine producing around 202 PS and 441 Nm, paired with an 8-speed DCT. This is the same unit powering the Kia Carnival in India. The alternative is a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol hybrid setup, expected to produce around 240 PS and 380 Nm and paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The same hybrid powertrain is also expected to make its way into Kia Carnival in a few weeks.
According to the leaked dealer document, both powertrains will be offered across the Sorento variant range. The choice between front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive will depend on the specific variant and seating configuration selected.
Variant and Seating Configuration
The leaked list provides a detailed breakdown of how trims relate to seating and drivetrain. For the seven-seater lineup, the HTE, HTE(O), HTK, and HTK(A) variants are listed with front-wheel drive. Higher HTX and HTX(A) trims move to all-wheel drive.
A six-seater configuration is also confirmed. In this layout, HTK and HTK(A) variants are shown with front-wheel drive, while the higher HTX and HTX(A) versions are listed with all-wheel drive. Black-line versions are present for both seating configurations, though their exact feature differences over regular trims are not yet officially revealed.
Exterior Colour Palette
The document reveals a broad exterior colour palette for the new Sorento. Shades mentioned include Glacier White Pearl, Gravity Grey, Imperial Blue, Red, Pewter Olive, Ivory Silver Gloss, and Aurora Black Pearl.
Matte Graphite appears to be reserved for select higher variants. Black-line versions are listed separately in the colour chart. The source notes that not every colour will be available with every trim.
This adds context to a recently spotted production-spec Sorento finished in Glacier White Pearl, which featured a light-coloured interior, 19-inch alloy wheels, and a seven-seat configuration.
Market Context and Potential

The SUV and MPV space between Rs 25 lakh and Rs 35 lakh, occupied by vehicles like the Mahindra XUV 7XO and Toyota Innova Hycross, attracts significant demand.
