Mahindra is preparing to launch three new SUVs in India. The models include a facelifted Thar 3-door, the BE 07 electric SUV, and the Vision S compact SUV, each with distinct timelines and market roles.
The Thar 3-door facelift is the closest to launch. Recent test mules suggest a comprehensive update, moving beyond the minor 2025 revision. The front end will see the most change, with a redesigned grille, new LED headlamps, and styling inspired by the larger Thar Roxx. New alloy wheels are also expected.
Mechanically, the package will likely stay the same. The current Thar offers petrol and diesel engines with manual and automatic transmissions in both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. However, reports suggest Mahindra could introduce electric power steering. An official launch date is pending, but recent reports point to the coming months.
BE 07 Electric SUV Delayed to 2027
The BE 07 represents a bigger, more premium electric offering. Mahindra originally planned an October 2026 launch but later confirmed its next electric SUV would arrive only in 2027. The production model is expected to be around 4.6 metres long, positioning it above the BE 6 in the electric lineup.
It will use the INGLO platform. The futuristic design language of the concept car is expected to be retained for production, though with a more practical cabin. The BE 07 is likely to compete with electric SUVs like the Tata Harrier EV and the VinFast VF7.
Vision S Enters Compact SUV Fray
The Vision S is arguably the most interesting model as it enters the high-volume compact SUV segment. The production SUV will sit above the XUV 3XO, rivaling models like the Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, and Kia Sonet.
It previews Mahindra's new NU_IQ modular platform. This architecture is engineered to accommodate internal combustion, hybrid, and electric powertrains. The company says NU_IQ-based SUVs will begin production from 2027. Final powertrain and specifications for the Vision S remain unconfirmed.
Broadening SUV Strategy
These three vehicles show the breadth of Mahindra's strategy. The Thar facelift reinforces the brand's lifestyle and off-road image. The BE 07 expands its dedicated electric SUV portfolio. The Vision S aims to bring newer design and technology into the fiercely competitive compact SUV space.
With Mahindra targeting continued growth in the SUV market, these three products are positioned as key components of its next phase.
