Reviews: Mahindra has launched the updated three-door Thar SUV in India

Mahindra has launched the facelifted Thar in India today. The three-door SUV receives its most significant update since the current generation debuted, focusing on new styling and cabin improvements while retaining its core mechanicals.

Several test vehicles and teasers had previously revealed the changes. The updates aim to give the three-door model a closer visual and equipment connection to the larger five-door Thar Roxx.

Cabin Receives Major Upgrades

The interior sees the most substantial revisions. Spy shots show a familiar 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which was part of a minor update last year, alongside tweaks to the dashboard and centre console.

A new steering wheel, A-pillar grab handles, and relocated power-window switches have been spotted. The revised centre section could house a wireless charging pad on selected variants.

Mahindra could introduce more equipment inspired by the five-door Thar Roxx. A 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control, and electric power steering are anticipated. Ventilated front seats and a 360-degree camera system are also likely additions.

Exterior Styling Revisions

Exterior changes refine the Thar's rugged look. Spy vehicles point to a revised grille and circular LED headlamps with a new internal lighting signature. The front bumper is also redesigned.

New alloy wheels are expected as part of the update. At the rear, changes may include revised tail lamps and bumper, though the familiar tailgate-mounted spare wheel will be retained.

Powertrain And Mechanical Details

The existing engine line-up is expected to carry over without major mechanical changes. Reports have also mentioned the possible return of a soft-top version. No major alteration to the ladder-frame chassis or off-road elements is anticipated.

Both the larger diesel and petrol engines are available with manual and automatic gearbox options. Four-wheel drive is expected to remain available with these engines, while rear-wheel-drive derivatives should retain their place in the lineup.

Pricing And Positioning

The outgoing Thar sits in a price bracket ranging from Rs. 10.32 lakh to Rs. 18 lakh (ex-showroom). According to the source, a small price increase is possible for the facelift, particularly on top-spec variants equipped with the new features and technologies.
