Mahindra is readying another update for its iconic three-door Thar SUV, less than a year after its 2025 refresh. The 2026 Mahindra Thar facelift is likely to launch on September 22, with camouflaged prototypes already spied on roads and official teasers released.

Official teasers hint at a revised front grille with a honeycomb pattern and potentially new alloy wheel designs. Spy shots suggest the facelifted model will borrow elements from the Thar Roxx variant, including projector LED headlamps with C-shaped daytime running lights. The report also indicates there will be revisions to the front and rear bumpers and updated tail-lamp detailing.

Interior and Feature Upgrades

Inside, the cabin layout is expected to remain largely the same as the current model. However, Mahindra is likely to introduce leatherette seat upholstery and newer trim materials to refresh the interior ambiance.

The 2025 update added a 10.25-inch touchscreen, rear AC vents, a rear wiper, and a rearview camera. For this 2026 facelift, the brand is reportedly addressing the remaining gaps in its feature list. Expected additions include a digital driver's display, a 360-degree surround-view camera system, ventilated front seats, a wireless phone charger, and automatic climate control.

Powertrain and Drivetrain Options

The facelifted Thar is not expected to receive new engines. It will likely retain the current lineup of powertrains and transmission options. The available engines and their specifications are detailed below.

2.2-litre diesel132hp300Nm6-speed manual / 6-speed automatic4x4 only
2.0-litre turbo-petrol152hp300Nm (320Nm with AT)6-speed manual / 6-speed automaticRWD and 4x4

As the table shows, the 1.5-litre diesel is offered solely with rear-wheel drive, while the 2.2-litre diesel is exclusively four-wheel drive. The more powerful 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine provides buyers with a choice between both drive layouts.

Expected Price and Rivals

The 2026 Mahindra Thar facelift is anticipated to carry a slight price premium over the current model. For reference, the existing Thar's ex-showroom prices range from Rs 10.32 lakh to Rs 18 lakh. Upon launch, it will continue to compete with rivals like the Maruti Jimny and the three-door Force Gurkha.
