New spy images show a connected-style LED tail light signature on Mahindra's upcoming Vision S-based SUV. The prototype retains its boxy shape and tailgate-mounted spare wheel.

Reviews: New spy images show a connected-style LED tail light signature on Mahindra's upcoming Vision S-based SUV

Mahindra's Vision S-based SUV has been spied at night, revealing a connected-style LED tail light signature for the first time. The images, shared by Rushlane, show horizontal red LED strips extending inwards from the outer lamp assemblies on either side of the tailgate-mounted spare wheel.

These new photographs provide a clearer view of the rear lighting design than earlier daytime shots. Slim horizontal lighting elements run towards the centre of the tailgate, meeting the vertical outer lamp sections. This creates a broader lighting signature. The centrally mounted spare wheel obscures the middle section, so it remains unconfirmed whether an uninterrupted illuminated strip connects the two sides.

A Two-Tier Lighting Layout

Previous spy shots had already revealed tall lamps integrated into the rear pillars. These featured stacked horizontal red elements. The latest night-time images do not show these upper sections lit, but they do not confirm their removal either. The darkness could simply be concealing them. The combined evidence suggests the rear design may incorporate both the higher vertical pillar lamps and the newly visible lower horizontal signature. Their exact functions as position lamps, brake lights, or indicators are not yet known.

Looking back at an earlier close-up image, a narrow horizontal outline can be seen beneath camouflage above the rectangular outer lamp. Its position aligns with the illuminated strip in the new photos, though the exact shape was hard to distinguish.

Prototype Retains Rugged Styling

The prototype continues to show familiar, rugged proportions. It features an upright rear windscreen, pronounced wheel arches, and the signature tailgate-mounted spare wheel. The tailgate handle position appears consistent with earlier test mules. Previous photographs showed a spare tyre marking that appeared to read 235/70 R16, hinting at a substantial tyre sidewall. Final wheel and tyre specs could vary across the production lineup.

Powertrain And Launch Details

Mahindra has confirmed that the NU_IQ architecture underpinning this model supports both internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric vehicle (EV) architectures. Specific powertrain choices and final equipment levels remain unannounced. A market launch is expected in 2027.

Earlier interior sightings revealed a cabin with two horizontal displays, vertical air conditioning vents, and an electronic parking brake. The SUV is expected to target the sub-four-metre segment. Its rugged look and earlier Scorpio-like pillar lamps have fueled speculation it could be a smaller addition to the Scorpio family, possibly named Scorpio Sport. Mahindra has not confirmed any branding details.
