Maruti Suzuki Baleno facelift adds new engine and ADAS
The 2026 Maruti Suzuki Baleno facelift debuts with a new three-cylinder engine, segment-first Level 2 ADAS, and improved fuel efficiency.

Maruti Suzuki has launched the mid-cycle update for its second-generation Baleno, first introduced in 2022. The updated model 2026, by Gaadiwaadi, brings a new engine, advanced safety tech, and cabin upgrades to the popular premium hatchback.
New Z-Series engine and efficiency gains
The most significant mechanical change is the replacement of the previous 1.2-litre K-Series engine with a new 1.2-litre Z-Series three-cylinder petrol unit. This engine, already used in the Swift and Dzire, produces 82 horsepower and 112 Nm of torque. It is paired with either a five-speed manual transmission or a five-speed AMT automatic.
The new powertrain delivers notable fuel efficiency improvements. The petrol manual variant now has a claimed mileage of 23.80 kmpl, a 6.4 percent increase. The AMT automatic version achieves 24.77 kmpl, marking a 7.9 percent jump. The factory-fitted CNG manual variant sees the most significant leap, with a 9.8 percent increase to 33.61 km per kg.
| Variant | Claimed Mileage | Efficiency Improvement |
|---|---|---|
| Petrol Manual | 23.80 kmpl | 6.4% |
| Petrol AMT | 24.77 kmpl | 7.9% |
| CNG Manual | 33.61 km/kg | 9.8% |
Segment-first Level 2 ADAS
A key safety addition is the introduction of Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), a segment-first feature for the Baleno. This package includes Adaptive Cruise Control, High Beam Assist, Advanced Emergency Braking, and Lane Keep Assist. According to the source, this technology could be the ultimate selling point for the facelift, making the new model considerably more advanced than its predecessor.
Subtle exterior and enhanced interior
The exterior design does not receive a comprehensive overhaul, but changes are evident at the front. The car gains a redesigned grille with triple chrome horizontal slats, a reworked bumper, and new fog lamp housings. Dimensions and alloy wheel design remain unchanged, with only subtle updates at the rear.
Inside, the new Baleno gets ventilated front seats, a feature the report states should prove particularly useful in India's warmer climate. The equipment list is bolstered by a Qi-certified wireless smartphone charger with active cooling and a premium Clarion sound system. The dashboard layout is retained, with no changes to the touchscreen or console. Additional features include a tyre pressure monitoring system, six airbags, a head-up display (HUD), and a 360-degree camera.
The Baleno continues to be one of India's best-selling cars and the top-selling premium hatchback. These updates aim to maintain its strong market position by addressing modern demands for efficiency, safety, and comfort.
