Maruti Suzuki YMC Electric MPV Targets 2027 India Launch
Maruti Suzuki is developing a three-row electric MPV, codenamed YMC, for a 2027 launch in India. The vehicle, based on the e Vitara's platform, will prioritize cabin space and practicality over maximum range.

Maruti Suzuki is developing a new three-row electric vehicle, internally called the YMC, for an expected launch in India in 2027. The model, often referred to as an SUV, is anticipated to have a more MPV-like design focus with a spacious cabin.
Test mules have already been spotted on Indian roads, indicating that development is progressing. The YMC will share its core electric architecture, the HEARTECT-e platform, with the existing Maruti e Vitara.
Platform and Powertrain
The shared platform is a strategic move for cost and localization, leveraging Maruti's existing EV ecosystem investment. The e Vitara is currently offered with two battery pack options.
The YMC is expected to use these same battery options. However, reports suggest its final certified range will likely be lower than the e Vitara's 543 km maximum. The larger, boxier MPV body with a third row of seats adds significant weight and reduces aerodynamic efficiency. Key powertrain components, including the electric motor, could also be shared between the models.
Design and Practicality
Spy shots of the test vehicle reveal a boxy, upright silhouette distinct from the e Vitara. The design features a large rear quarter section, vertical front and rear ends, and conventional pull-type door handles. Vertical tail-lamps that wrap around the rear windscreen contribute to its MPV character.
The cabin space is positioned as the primary selling point. Maruti aims to translate its reputation for practical family vehicles, established by models like the Ertiga and XL6, into the electric segment. The YMC is expected to offer three rows of seating, flexible interior space, and the everyday usability sought by Indian family buyers. It will also likely borrow technology and equipment from the e Vitara.
Market Position and Competition
The YMC is anticipated to be positioned as a relatively accessible three-row EV. Current, unconfirmed estimates point to a price range between Rs 14 lakh and Rs 18 lakh. Its final market positioning could differ.
This model could compete with upcoming electric MPVs and SUVs, such as the reported Kia Carens Clavis EV. It may also attract buyers considering larger five-seat electric SUVs. For Maruti Suzuki, the YMC represents a potential second major step into electric mobility, expanding its EV technology into a segment where space and practicality are paramount.
The report concludes that if Maruti can achieve competitive pricing, the YMC could become one of the more notable family EVs to watch when it arrives.
