Maruti Suzuki is planning a major product offensive for the Indian market, with several new models slated to arrive by 2027. The automaker's upcoming lineup includes its first three-row electric vehicle, updated engines, and new hybrid technology.

The Electric Push: YMC and Y2V

The most significant upcoming model is the YMC, Maruti Suzuki's first three-row electric vehicle. Production-ready test mules have been spotted, with a debut expected by the end of 2026 and sales starting in 2027. It will share its HEARTECT-e skateboard platform, electric motor, and battery technology with the e Vitara.

The YMC is expected to use the same battery packs as the e Vitara. However, its larger, boxier three-row body is likely to result in a lower driving range than the e Vitara's claimed maximum. The vehicle's design prioritizes cabin space and will sit above the Ertiga and XL6 in the portfolio.

At the other end of the electric spectrum, Maruti is developing a much smaller EV known internally as the Y2V. Based on the Suzuki eWX concept, this compact hatchback will use a locally developed K-EV architecture and a battery of around 35 kWh. It is aimed at urban buyers and potential rivals like the Tata Tiago EV. This model, however, is unlikely to arrive by 2027, with production possibly starting in late 2027 or 2028.

Hybrids and New Powertrains

A major update is coming for the Fronx crossover. Beyond cosmetic changes, it could introduce Maruti's new 1.2-litre Z-Series engine paired with an in-house series-hybrid system. In this setup, the petrol engine acts primarily as a generator to charge the battery that powers the drive motor.

Unconfirmed reports indicate Maruti could be targeting a fuel efficiency figure of around 30 to 35 kmpl with this hybrid Fronx. The facelifted model may also gain Level 2 ADAS, bringing features like adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assistance to the segment.

The familiar Wagon R is also in for a mechanical update. A test mule suggests the tall-boy design remains, but the engine may be swapped. Maruti is expected to consider fitting its new 1.2-litre Z12E three-cylinder petrol engine to replace the current four-cylinder unit. An underbody CNG tank has been discussed, but its inclusion is not confirmed.

A New Small SUV: The Y43

To compete with models like the Tata Punch, Maruti is developing a new sub-four-metre SUV codenamed Y43. This model is expected to replace the Ignis in the Nexa lineup but with a more conventional SUV stance. It will feature a higher bonnet, greater ground clearance, and a more upright design.

The Y43 is also expected to use the new 1.2-litre Z-Series petrol engine, with a factory-fitted CNG option reported. Maruti has not officially confirmed the engine, final design, or production name. Its reported launch timeframe of 2027 is therefore considered tentative.

The company's expansion into new segments and technologies marks one of its most interesting product cycles in recent years. Final specifications and launch dates for these models await official confirmation from the automaker.
