Renault Duster Hybrid Launches in India on October 17
Renault India will launch the Duster hybrid SUV on October 17, 2026, introducing a new 160hp E-Tech powertrain to compete with rivals like the Maruti Grand

Renault India has officially confirmed the Duster hybrid's arrival in the Indian market. The launch is scheduled for October 17, 2026, adding a third powertrain option to the SUV's lineup.
Powertrain and performance
The Duster hybrid is powered by a 1.8-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine paired with two electric motors and a multi-mode automatic gearbox. The combined system output is 160hp and 172Nm of torque, drawing from a 1.4kWh battery pack that does not require external charging. Renault claims up to 80 percent of city driving can be done in electric-only mode, with energy recovered through regenerative braking. The hybrid system, branded E-Tech, is designed to attract buyers seeking lower fuel consumption following the removal of a diesel option.
Renault said: "Renault says it draws from its experience and expertise in Formula 1." The system uses a multi-mode automatic gearbox with fixed gear ratios, differing from Toyota's e-CVT setup. Certified Indian fuel-efficiency figures will be part of the launch announcement.
Features and technology
The hybrid variant introduces several premium features over the standard Duster. Key additions include a 10.1-inch fully digital driver's display and 6-way electrically adjustable seats for both driver and co-passenger. The SUV also gains a Level 2 ADAS suite with 17 features, a 360-degree camera, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Comfort is enhanced with a dual-zone climate control system and ventilation and heating functions for the seats. Other noted features are leatherette seats with yellow accents, a three-spoke steering wheel with mounted controls, and a tyre pressure monitoring system.
Market positioning and pricing
The Duster hybrid will compete directly with strong-hybrid versions of the Maruti Grand Vitara, Maruti Victoris, and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder. Its expected price range is between Rs 19 lakh and Rs 23 lakh, ex-showroom, though final pricing will be announced on launch day. This positions it above the current petrol-only Duster lineup, which is priced between Rs 10.49 lakh and Rs 18.69 lakh. The hybrid will be available exclusively with an automatic transmission.
Sales context and reception
The launch comes as Duster sales have seen a significant decline. After a peak of 2,359 units in April 2026, sales fell for four consecutive months to just 402 units in August. August sales were down 21.48% month-on-month and approximately 83% below April's peak. Across March to August, the model registered 6,953 units, averaging about 1,159 units per month. Renault claims to have sold out all initial stock of the Duster hybrid before prices were announced. Bookings have been stopped temporarily, with a possible fresh batch announcement based on customer response. The official launch announcement on 17 October 2026 will reveal the final price and booking details.
