Reviews: Tata Motors has launched the Aeris compact sedan, a comprehensive facelift of the Tigor, starting at Rs 5.29 lakh

Tata Motors has launched the all-new Aeris compact sedan in India at an introductory price of Rs 5.29 lakh (ex-showroom). The car is a significant facelift of the outgoing Tigor, featuring a Tiago-inspired design, dual-fuel engine options, and a focus on safety and cabin technology.

The Aeris features a refreshed exterior with sleeker LED headlights incorporating eyebrow-like LED DRLs and a gloss black grille. Its front bumper includes black elements with pixel-shaped LED fog lamps and air curtains for better aerodynamic efficiency. At the rear, it gets slimmer LED taillights connected by a red trim, a subtle lip spoiler, and a sculpted bumper. The coupe-like roofline and black wheel arch cladding contribute to a sporty look. The Aeris is offered in six exterior colours: Nitro Crimson, Pure Grey, Dandeli Drizzle, Pristine White, Daytona Grey, and Dune Glow. Lower-spec Smart and Pure trims, along with all CNG variants, ride on 14-inch wheels, while higher variants get 15-inch alloys.

Interior and technology features

Inside, the Aeris presents a layered dashboard with a lighter brown and beige theme for an airier feel. It is dominated by a free-standing 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a semi-digital driver's display. A new two-spoke steering wheel with physical buttons is standard. New features include ventilated front seats with leatherette upholstery, a wireless phone charger, and USB-C fast charging. The car also gets wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 6-speaker sound system, and connected car technology. A notable addition is the 'DashCam Recorder' function, which uses the car's 360-degree camera system as an integrated dashcam. The cabin is said to comfortably accommodate four passengers.

Powertrain, transmission and boot space

The Aeris offers a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine making 86hp and a CNG variant derived from the same engine producing 76hp. Both engines are available with a 5-speed manual or an AMT (Automated Manual Transmission), except on the base Smart trim. Tata has yet to announce prices for the AMT variants. A key highlight is the CNG model's dual-cylinder setup, a segment-first, which enables a usable boot space of 227 litres - claimed to be the largest for a CNG-powered sedan in its class. The petrol version offers a larger 419-litre boot.

Safety, variants and market positioning

Safety is a major focus, with six airbags provided as standard across all five trims: Smart, Pure, Pure+, Creative, and Accomplished. The comprehensive safety kit also includes a 360-degree camera with a blind-spot monitor, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), ISOFIX child seat mounts, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, and rain-sensing wipers. The Aeris directly competes with rivals like the Hyundai Aura, Maruti Dzire, and Honda Amaze in the compact sedan segment. Tata said: "Official bookings for the sedan have begun, and deliveries will commence from October 11."
