Tata Punch leads compact SUV sales in August 2026
The Tata Punch was India's top-selling compact SUV in August 2026, with sales of 21,320 units. The Maruti Suzuki Fronx and Tata Nexon followed, as the segment's top ten models all posted year-on-year growth.

The Tata Punch was India's best-selling compact SUV in August 2026, according to sales data. The model registered 21,320 units, nearly double its sales from the same month a year prior.
This performance gave the Punch a commanding 17.6 percent share of the compact SUV segment. Its year-on-year growth of 99.2 percent was the highest among all top-ten models.
The Top Five Contenders
The Maruti Suzuki Fronx secured second place with 18,730 units sold. This represented a 50.8 percent increase over August 2025. The Fronx held a 15.4 percent segment share.
Close behind in third was the Tata Nexon, with 18,431 units. It finished just 299 units behind the Fronx. The Nexon's sales grew 31.6 percent year-on-year, capturing a 15.2 percent market share.
The Maruti Suzuki Brezza took fourth position with 15,288 units, a 12.2 percent increase. The report from Gaadiwaadi notes that its recently launched facelift is expected to boost its numbers further. The Brezza's share was 12.6 percent.
Completing the top five was the Hyundai Venue, with 11,365 units sold. This marked a 40.2 percent surge from the previous year, earning it a 9.4 percent segment share.
Mid-Table Performers
The Kia Sonet ranked sixth with 9,048 units.9 percent growth. It held a 7.5 percent share of the segment.
Mahindra's XUV 3XO came in seventh, selling 8,302 units. This was a significant 50.4 percent jump from August 2025, giving it a 6.8 percent market share.
The Hyundai Exter was a close eighth, recording 8,157 units. Its sales grew by 61.2 percent, the second-highest year-on-year gain in the top ten after the Punch. The Exter secured a 6.7 percent share.
Closing Out the Rankings
The Skoda Kylaq occupied ninth place with 3,590 units, a 15.8 percent increase. It held a 3.0 percent segment share.
The Toyota Taisor rounded out the top ten, selling 2,863 units for a 2.4 percent share. Toyota's crossover posted a 6.7 percent year-on-year growth.
The sales figures for August 2026 show a competitive and growing market. Every model in the top ten list recorded higher sales compared to August 2025.
