The Tesla Model Y and Mercedes-Benz CLA EV are two distinct zero-emission vehicles available in the market, each with its own unique characteristics. The Model Y is a crossover, while the CLA EV is a sedan, and they differ in terms of battery size, range, and performance. To determine which vehicle offers better real-world range, we conducted a comprehensive test of both models.

## Tesla Model Y vs Mercedes CLA EV: Specifications and Price The two vehicles have different specifications, with the CLA 250+ AMG Line featuring a larger 85kWh battery compared to the Model Y Premium RWD's 60kWh unit. This results in a claimed range of 792km for the CLA, significantly higher than the Model Y's 500km. The Tesla, however, produces more power and torque, at 299hp and 420Nm, compared to the CLA's 272hp and 335Nm. The Model Y is also lighter, weighing 1,928kg versus the CLA's 2,055kg. The price difference between the two models is noticeable, with the Model Y Premium RWD costing Rs 50.89 lakh, Rs 9.61 lakh less than the CLA 250+ AMG Line, which is priced at Rs 60.50 lakh.

## Real-World Range Comparison Our tests revealed that the CLA 250+ has a higher real-world range, despite weighing more, due to its larger battery pack. The CLA managed 584km in the city and 639km on the highway, compared to the Model Y's 350km and 391km, respectively. The CLA's average real-world range is 612km, which is 242km more than the Model Y's 371km. The CLA's slightly lower drag coefficient and stronger regenerative braking also contribute to its higher range.

## Autocar India's Range Testing Methodology Our real-world range comparisons involve driving the cars on a fixed loop covering both city and highway stretches, while maintaining set average speeds. We calculate the range based on the percentage of charge consumed, with the AC set to 22deg C in auto mode, and features such as the music system, lights, and ventilated seats used as needed. This approach ensures consistency and provides a clear idea of what to expect in actual conditions.

The comparison of the two models can be summarized in the following table: | Model | Battery Size | Claimed Range | Power | Torque | Weight | Price | | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | | Tesla Model Y Premium RWD | 60kWh | 500km | 299hp | 420Nm | 1,928kg | Rs 50.89 lakh | | Mercedes-Benz CLA 250+ AMG Line | 85kWh | 792km | 272hp | 335Nm | 2,055kg | Rs 60.50 lakh | The results of our real-world range test are as follows: | Model | City Range | Highway Range | Average Range | | --- | --- | --- | --- | | Tesla Model Y Premium RWD | 350km | 391km | 371km | | Mercedes-Benz CLA 250+ AMG Line | 584km | 639km | 612km |
