Safety: Hyundai has opened bookings for the 4.2-meter Bayon SUV in India

Hyundai Motor India has opened bookings for its upcoming Bayon SUV for a token amount of Rs 11,000. The 4.2-meter-long model will be offered with a petrol engine paired with manual and Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT) gearboxes.

According to the company, the Bayon is positioned as an "Intelligent Utility Vehicle." It will slot between the Venue and Creta in Hyundai's Indian lineup. Bookings can be made through Hyundai's official website or its dealership network nationwide.

Design And Dimensions

The Bayon's exterior design includes a sculpted bonnet, signature H-Edge LED daytime running lights, and geometric wheel arches. It also features wrap-around door cladding, bridge-type roof rails, and alloy wheels fitted with 215/55 R17 tyres.

Hyundai has confirmed the SUV's length but has not disclosed its width, height, wheelbase, or boot capacity. The company highlights cabin space and occupant comfort as key focus areas for the model.

Technology And Features

A key highlight is an in-built generative AI voice assistant, designed for more natural interaction between driver and vehicle. Supported languages and specific commands have not yet been detailed.

Earlier sketches and test vehicles have previewed a horizontal dashboard layout with dual integrated screens and Hyundai's characteristic four-spoke steering wheel. Features spotted during testing include a panoramic sunroof and a 360-degree camera system. The complete feature list and variant-wise breakdown are still awaited.

Powertrain And Safety Focus

The Bayon will be powered by a petrol engine, likely the same 1.5-liter naturally aspirated unit found in the Creta, which produces 115 PS and 144 Nm of torque. Hyundai states the petrol setup was chosen to deliver refinement, responsiveness, and fuel efficiency for daily use.

While there were earlier rumours of a CNG variant with an underbody tank, this has not been confirmed. The SUV is built on Hyundai's Global K Enhanced Platform, which the company says is engineered to meet five-star Indian safety standards under the Bharat NCAP protocol. This is a development claim; an official crash-test rating has not been announced.

Launch Timeline And Global Debut

Hyundai has confirmed an India launch during the upcoming festive season, though an exact date has not been set. Delivery timelines will be announced at the time of launch.

The European-spec Bayon is scheduled for a global debut at the Paris Motor Show on October 12. An Indian reveal could occur around the same period, but a simultaneous unveiling has not been confirmed. Hyundai has a history of simultaneous global debuts, having unveiled the Venue in South Korea, the USA, and India at the same time in 2019.

Announcing the bookings, Tarun Garg, Managing Director and CEO of Hyundai Motor India Limited, said, "The Hyundai BAYON embodies our vision of intelligent mobility by seamlessly integrating advanced technology, futuristic design and comprehensive safety into a compelling SUV package."
