Hyundai Venue N Line Turbo-Automatic Real-World Fuel Economy
Autocar India tested the Hyundai Venue N Line's 1.0-litre turbo-petrol automatic, finding it delivered 12.1kpl a figure close to the less powerful base

The Hyundai Venue N Line turbo-petrol automatic returned an overall fuel efficiency of 12.1 kilometres per litre in real-world testing by Autocar India. The subcompact SUV, which has a claimed efficiency of 20kpl, was tested in both city and highway conditions.
Autocar India's testers drove the Venue N Line in fixed loops around Navi Mumbai. They used the car's Eco driving mode for both the urban and highway segments of the assessment.
Test Results and Comparison
The Venue N Line, powered by a 120hp 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, recorded 9.9kpl in the city. On the highway, it achieved 14.3kpl. With its 45-litre fuel tank, this translates to a potential range of 545 kilometres on a full tank.
Earlier in the year, the publication tested the standard Hyundai Venue with a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. The results show the more powerful N Line variant's efficiency is surprisingly close to that of the base model.
| Model | Engine | City Efficiency (kpl) | Highway Efficiency (kpl) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hyundai Venue N Line | 1.0L Turbo-Petrol | 9.9 | 14.3 |
| Hyundai Venue (Regular) | 1.2L Petrol | 10.7 | 14.9 |
Despite producing 37 horsepower and 57 Newton-metres of torque more than the 1.2-litre engine, the N Line's fuel consumption figures are only marginally higher. Autocar India noted this as an impressive result.
Efficiency Factors Explained
Two key technical features aid the Venue N Line's fuel economy. The first is its automatic engine stop-start system, which cuts the engine at idle to save fuel in city traffic. This feature is not available on the Venue with the naturally aspirated engine.
The second is its seven-speed gearbox. The tall seventh gear allows the car to cruise at 100 kilometres per hour with the engine revolving at a relaxed 2,200 rpm. In contrast, the regular Venue with a five-speed manual gearbox maintains the same speed with its engine spinning at 3,200 rpm. The lower engine speed contributes to better highway efficiency.
Autocar India's Testing Methodology
The publication follows a strict procedure for its real-world fuel efficiency tests. Test cars are filled with fuel to the brim before beginning, and tyre pressures are set to the manufacturer's recommended levels.
Drivers maintain specified average speeds on predetermined city and highway routes. Only one person is in the car during testing, with the air conditioning set to 22 degrees Celsius in full-auto mode. Other electrical systems like the audio, indicators, and wipers are used as a normal driver would.
Driver swaps are conducted periodically to neutralise variations in individual driving styles. Fuel efficiency is calculated by refilling the tank to the brim at the end of each test cycle and measuring the fuel consumed.
The tested Hyundai Venue N Line weighed 1,258 kilograms.
