Kia has unveiled the India-spec Sorento, its new flagship ICE-powered model with three rows of seating, ahead of its launch on September 4. The Sorento will be offered with strong-hybrid and diesel powertrains, with the hybrid variant featuring all-wheel drive.

The Kia Sorento is set to launch in India on September 4, and the company has officially revealed the India-spec model. This new flagship ICE-powered model will feature three rows of seating and will be offered with strong-hybrid and diesel powertrains. The hybrid variant will be unique in its segment, featuring all-wheel drive.
Design and Features
The India-spec Sorento features a design that is more broadly appealing, characterised by Kia's signature Tiger Nose grille, large vertical LED headlamps, and quintessential SUV proportions. The front bumper features a wide central air intake, LED fog lamps, and vertical aero vents at the edges. The profile features a satin trim on the front fenders and a chrome surround for the window line, while the rear features a squarish tail-lamp with an inverted L-shaped LED signature and a prominent roof spoiler.
Interior and Dimensions
The interior of the Sorento is similar to that of other newer Kia models, featuring a connected panel with two screens for infotainment and instrumentation. The layered dashboard looks uncluttered, with a slim band for the AC vents and Kia's signature dual-purpose control panel. The centre console features a wireless charger, chunky grab handles, and a prominent driver selector with a premium finish. The Sorento is expected to remain unchanged from the global-spec model in terms of dimensions, measuring 4,815mm in length, 1,900mm in width, and 1,700mm in height, with a 2,815mm wheelbase.
Powertrain Options
Kia has confirmed two powertrain options for India - a hybrid with all-wheel drive and a diesel. The hybrid version features a 1.6-litre 4-cylinder strong-hybrid unit that develops 238hp and 380Nm, while the diesel version features a 2.0-litre unit putting out 202hp and 441Nm. Both are likely to be paired with automatic transmissions. The hybrid powertrain will be a first in its segment, while diesel is the preferred choice for buyers in an SUV of this size.
The Sorento will compete with the likes of the Skoda Kodiaq, Volkswagen Tayron, and Jeep Meridian. Prices will be officially announced on September 4, and bookings are currently underway. The expected price range is between Rs 30 lakh-35 lakh (ex-showroom), making it a competitive offering in the market. With high levels of localisation, the Sorento is expected to offer a unique blend of features, performance, and value to Indian buyers.
