Tata EV bookings triple in six months

Tata Motors says electric vehicle bookings have tripled in six months. Production capacity now limits its ability to convert these orders into deliveries.

Reviews: Tata Motors says electric vehicle bookings have tripled in six months

Bookings for Tata electric cars have tripled over the last six months. Vivek Srivatsa, Chief Commercial Officer at Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, revealed the figure, as reported by Gaadiwaadi.

Tata has also increased its electric vehicle market share in each of the last two to three months. It remains the best-selling passenger EV maker in India. Srivatsa stated that the gap between Tata and the second-placed EV player has widened during this same period.

Production limits growth

Despite the surge in demand, Tata cannot fully translate the booking increase into deliveries. Srivatsa explained that manufacturing capability is restricting output. Production, not demand, has become the immediate limitation. For a detailed look at current team operations, visit our squad page.

The timing is significant as the automotive industry approaches the festive season. Srivatsa expects the festive quarter to become the largest ever for the passenger vehicle industry. Seasonal demand could help Tata convert more bookings, but the outcome depends on additional production capacity.

Tata's EV range and pricing

Tata Motors offers an expansive range of electric cars in India. The lineup spans multiple segments and price points, from the Tiago EV at around Rs. 6.99 lakh to the Harrier EV at around Rs. 30.43 lakh (ex-showroom). The Punch EV, Nexon EV, and Curvv EV fill the gaps between these models, while the recently launched Sierra EV provides another electric SUV choice in the midsize segment. Another change is scheduled before the festive period. Tata Motors will raise vehicle prices in September 2026. The increase will be up to Rs. 25,000 across the company's internal combustion engine and electric vehicle range.

Market context and future models

Several factors are supporting the shift in buying pace towards electric vehicles. The country's EV segment grew 77 percent year-on-year in the first quarter. This compares with 46 percent growth for the overall passenger vehicle industry.

Earlier this year, the Punch EV received a facelift. It has been well received by customers. Looking ahead, the Safari EV and the more premium Avinya are expected to arrive within the next 12 months.
