Tata Motors has launched the Aeris, the rebranded and comprehensively updated successor to the Tigor sub-4 metre sedan. Priced from Rs 5.29 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the new model is offered in four variants, each adding progressive layers of comfort, convenience, and technology.
The entry-level Smart variant is well-equipped with 14-inch steel wheels, tilt steering, rear-seat headrests, and six airbags. Safety is bolstered by ABS with EBD, CSC, a seatbelt reminder for all seats, and rear parking sensors.
| Variant | Key Feature Additions Over Preceding Variant |
|---|---|
| Smart | 14-inch steel wheels, tilt steering, six airbags, rear parking sensors |
| Pure | Steering audio controls, 15W USB ports, powered ORVMs, auto door locks, follow-me-home headlamps |
| Pure+ | 8-inch touchscreen, 65W USB-C, ESP with TC, TPMS, hill hold, reverse camera |
| Creative | LED headlamps & DRLs, chrome door handles, 15-inch alloy wheels (petrol) |
The Pure variant adds steering-mounted audio controls, 15-watt USB Type-A and Type-C ports, and electrically adjustable ORVMs. It also brings Bluetooth connectivity to the 5-inch digital instrument cluster and includes front and rear power windows. Exterior styling is enhanced with wheel covers, body-coloured door handles, and a rear defogger.
Moving to the Pure+ variant brings significant tech and safety upgrades. It features an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus two additional speakers. The variant adds 65-watt USB Type-C ports, a passenger vanity mirror, and a front centre armrest with storage. Key safety inclusions are the Electronic Stability Program with Traction Control, a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, Hill Hold Control, and an HD reverse parking camera. Note that cruise control is excluded in the CNG AMT configuration of this variant. The Pure+ rides on 15-inch (petrol) or 14-inch (CNG) alloy steel wheels with caps designed to mimic alloys and includes a shark fin antenna.
The range-topping Creative variant brings LED headlamps and DRLs, chrome door handles, and exclusive 15-inch alloy wheels for the petrol model.
Design and exterior updates
The Aeris features a comprehensively reworked styling compared to the Tigor. Its front end sports a slim gloss-black grille flanked by rectangular LED headlamps, with a sculpted bumper housing LED fog lamps. While it retains the Tigor's notchback roofline, it gains new 15-inch alloy wheels, wheel arch cladding, and 'Aeris' badging on the front doors.
The rear design takes inspiration from the Curvv, featuring a high bootlid, a roof spoiler, and a connected LED taillamp setup. The rear bumper houses the number plate and a reverse lamp. Buyers can choose from six colour options: Dandeli Drizzle (Purple), Daytona Grey, Nitro Crimson (Red), Dune Glow (Gold), Pure Grey, and Pristine White. All are available with an optional black roof for a dual-tone scheme.
Interior, technology, and practicality
Inside, the Aeris cabin uses a lighter beige and cream theme, borrowing design elements from the facelifted Tiago. The dashboard features edgy elements, fabric inserts, and a two-spoke steering wheel with a matte black finish. AMT versions include paddle shifters for manual control.
The centre console is home to rotary climate controls, a wireless charger, a phone dock, and a rotary gear shift dial. Rear passengers get dedicated AC vents and a centre armrest with cupholders. According to Tata Cars, boot space measures 419 litres. The infotainment system is a 10.25-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, paired with a 6-speaker sound system.
Availability and market positioning
The Aeris is positioned as a value-driven replacement, priced Rs 40,000 lower than the Tigor it replaces. Bookings are open across authorised Tata dealerships and the official website. Deliveries of the Aeris start on October 11. The model will be exclusively sold to private buyers, while the Xpres variant will continue to serve fleet customers.
One industry observer noted, "The Aeris is certainly an unconventional take on the sub-4 metre sedan segment, and has plenty to woo entry-level buyers into Tata showrooms." What helps this further is reasonable pricing, making it one of the most value-for-money options in its segment. The first customers will receive their cars on October 11.
