Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella, the brand's sole electric vehicle in India, has been range-tested by Autocar India. The single-variant SUV, priced at Rs 23.6 lakh, delivered an overall real-world range of 402 kilometers on a full charge. It weighs 1,815kg.
The Urban Cruiser Ebella is essentially a rebadged Maruti Suzuki eVitara. It uses a 61kWh lithium-ion LFP battery pack and a front-wheel-drive electric motor producing 174hp and 193Nm of torque. It has three driving and regen modes but no single-pedal driving.
Real-World Range Performance
Autocar India conducted its test using the Eco driving mode. The testers set the regenerative braking to 'High' for city driving and 'Medium' on the highway.
In city conditions, the Ebella returned an efficiency of 6.37km/kWh. This translates to a potential range of 389km. On the highway, efficiency improved to 6.8km/kWh, which extrapolates to a 415km range. The overall efficiency figure was 6.59km/kWh, leading to the 402km total range claim. Charging Test Results
While Toyota has not officially published DC fast-charging specs, the test recorded peak charging speeds of around 68.2kW on a 90kW DC fast charger. The 20-80 percent top-up took 35 minutes.
Testing Methodology
The publication detailed its rigorous testing process. The test car's battery was fully charged beforehand, and tyre pressures were set to manufacturer specifications.
The vehicle was driven on a fixed loop in Mumbai on a weekday, covering both city streets and an adjoining state highway. Testers maintained set average speeds for consistency. Range was calculated based on the percentage of charge consumed after each driving cycle.
Climate control was set to 22 degrees Celsius in auto mode. Other electrical features like the audio system and ventilated front seats were used as a typical owner would.
