A heavily camouflaged test vehicle for JSW Motors' first model has been spotted on Indian roads. The SUV is based on the Jetour T2 and will be offered with a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

Assembly will take place at the company's plant in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra. This debut model marks JSW Motors' entry into the passenger vehicle market.

Design details from spy shots

The spied test mule closely resembles the design of the Jetour T2 sold in international markets. Visual elements like the tail-lights, roof rails, and alloy wheels appear nearly identical.

A design patent filed in India earlier this year indicates the JSW version will likely retain most of the T2's styling. The main change will be swapping the Jetour badges for JSW Motors' own branding. The interior was not visible in the spy shots, leaving its feature list unknown.

For reference, the global-spec Jetour T2 is equipped with a large 15.6-inch touchscreen and a 540-degree camera system. It also offers Level 2 ADAS, a panoramic sunroof, and a Sony surround-sound audio system.

Plug-in hybrid powertrain specs

The JSW SUV is anticipated to use the plug-in hybrid system from the Jetour T2 i-DM. This setup combines a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine with a 26.7kWh battery pack powering two electric motors.

One motor drives the front axle. The second motor is integrated into the gearbox to assist with engine starting and providing torque during gear changes. The combined system output is substantial.

EV Range (NEDC, global spec)139 km
Claimed Combined RangeOver 1,000 km

These performance and range figures are for the global model. Official specifications for the Indian-spec JSW SUV have not been released.

Expected price, rivals, and launch

Autocar India expects the JSW Motors SUV to carry an ex-showroom price between Rs 38 lakh and Rs 40 lakh. At this price point, it would compete with models like the Skoda Kodiaq and Volkswagen Tayron.

The report states that, among internal combustion engine SUVs in this segment, the T2-based model is expected to offer significantly more power and torque than its rivals.

Earlier sources indicated a potential September launch, but the company has made no official announcement. Recent reports now suggest JSW Motors will launch its first passenger vehicle in January 2027.
