Nissan Plans Three New SUVs for India

Nissan will launch three new SUVs in India, according to a report from Gaadiwaadi. The company plans a three-row C-SUV in 2027, will import the Patrol early next year, and could revive the Terrano nameplate by 2029.

Following the launch of the Tekton in July, Nissan is focusing on expanding its SUV lineup. The company has confirmed a new locally manufactured C-segment SUV for 2027.

Three-Row C-SUV for 2027

This upcoming model will be positioned above the Tekton. It is designed to challenge the Hyundai Alcazar and will target families. The SUV will be a derivative of the Tekton but with significant engineering and design changes for more space and an upscale character.

Nissan has confirmed a seven-seat configuration. The company could also offer a six-seat layout with captain's chairs in the second row. The vehicle will likely measure around 4.6 metres long with a 2.7-metre wheelbase.

A 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine is expected to be standard. It produces 161 hp and 280 Nm of torque. Buyers will likely have a choice between a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed dual-wet-clutch automatic transmission.

Full-Size Patrol Import

By early next year, Nissan will likely launch the Patrol as a CBU import. This full-size, body-on-frame SUV can accommodate up to eight people. It rivals the Toyota Land Cruiser 300.

The Patrol is expected to come loaded with features. These include 22-inch wheels, adaptive air suspension, and puddle lamps projecting a symbol of its legacy since 1951. Inside, it will feature twin 14.3-inch displays, a colour HUD, and zero-gravity front seats with massage function. Rear entertainment will be handled by 12.8-inch screens, and audio by a 12-speaker Klipsch system.

Safety features will likely include Invisible Hood View, ProPILOT, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Departure Prevention, and seven airbags. Power will come from a VR35 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine producing 425 hp and 700 Nm of torque. A 9-speed automatic transmission and part-time 4WD system will send power to the wheels.

Potential Terrano Revival

Sometime in 2028, Nissan could revive the Terrano nameplate with an all-new model. In India, this Toyota Fortuner rival may launch by 2029. The company would likely assemble it locally from imported knocked-down kits.

Nissan showcased a concept version of such a model earlier this year. It is likely to be developed on a modified version of the body-on-frame platform from the Frontier Pro pickup truck, which is derived from Dongfeng’s Z9 model. The company could offer the D-segment SUV with internal combustion engine and plug-in hybrid variants. The hybrid version could challenge the first JSW SUV, which will be a rebadged version of Chery’s Traveller C-DM.
