A test vehicle for the Renault Triber Turbo CNG has been spotted in Pune, indicating a major powertrain upgrade is imminent.
A Renault Triber test vehicle equipped with a turbo-petrol engine and a CNG system has been spotted in Pune. According to a report from Rushlane, the compact MPV is set for a major powertrain upgrade in September 2026.
The spied vehicle carried a clearly visible Turbo badge on its tailgate and a CNG sticker on the rear windscreen. This sighting is seen as the strongest indication yet that Renault is preparing a factory-fitted Turbo-CNG version of its seven-seat people mover.
Powertrain Upgrade
The current Triber uses a 1.0-litre three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine producing around 72 hp and 96 Nm of torque. Performance with a full load has been a noted limitation.
The upcoming model is expected to use the 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine found in the Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite. In those models, this engine develops around 100 hp and 160 Nm. A substantial torque increase should improve overtaking ability and highway drivability when the vehicle is fully occupied. Reports suggest a 5-speed manual gearbox will be offered, with a CVT automatic as a potential option for the turbo-petrol variant.
More interesting is the planned CNG setup. Renault will likely use a factory-fitted dual-cylinder system positioned underneath the boot floor. This placement should help preserve luggage space, a critical factor for a three-row vehicle. Power and torque figures specific to the CNG mode have not been revealed.
Underlying Changes & Features
Reports suggest the Triber now uses a revised architecture called the Renault Group Entry Platform (RGEP). The earlier CMF-A architecture reportedly presented packaging and crash-safety constraints that prevented the fitment of the turbo engine. The new platform is said to accommodate both the turbo powertrain and the underbody CNG system.
Visually, the test vehicle remains largely identical to the recently updated Triber, with the Turbo badge being the key external differentiator. The familiar seven-seat cabin is expected to continue, featuring equipment such as an 8-inch touchscreen, automatic climate control, and rain-sensing wipers. Safety equipment reportedly includes six airbags, ESC, TPMS, ABS, and EBD.
Market Position & Launch
The Renault Triber Turbo is likely to be launched in September 2026. Current Triber prices start at around Rs 5.81 lakh, ex-showroom. The Turbo and CNG versions are expected to command a price premium.
