Hyundai inaugurates Pune plant, targets 3.2 lakh annual capacity
Hyundai Motor India has inaugurated its new manufacturing facility in Pune with a phased Rs 11,000 crore investment.

Hyundai Motor India inaugurated its new manufacturing facility at Talegaon, Pune on October 14, 2026. The event, attended by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Hyundai Motor Group executive chair Euisun Chung, marks the company's first major manufacturing expansion outside Tamil Nadu.
Export milestone and domestic achievement
The inauguration coincided with Hyundai marking a major export milestone. The automaker has now shipped 40 lakh, or 4 million, passenger vehicles from India since it began exports in 1999. This makes Hyundai the first manufacturer to achieve that cumulative export volume from the country. Domestically, the company is nearing 1 crore passenger vehicle sales over its 30 years in India.
Investment, capacity and supplier ecosystem
Hyundai will invest Rs 11,000 crore in phases at the Pune site. The plant's current annual installed capacity is 1.7 lakh (170,000) vehicles. This is planned to increase in phases to 3.2 lakh (320,000) units annually by 2030.
Combined with its Chennai operations, Hyundai Motor India’s total annual manufacturing capacity will reach nearly 11.4 lakh (1.14 million) units. The Pune facility also houses a modern engine shop with an annual capacity of 1.5 lakh units.
A deep local supplier network supports the operation. Nearly half of the supplier sourcing is located within a 50-kilometre radius. Fifty-five Tier-1 supplier partners have invested nearly Rs 4,600 crore in Maharashtra. The combined Tier-1 and Tier-2 network has generated more than 18,000 jobs in the state.
Tarun Garg, managing director and chief executive officer of Hyundai Motor India, said the "phased investment would support manufacturing expansion, industrial development, innovation and employment in the region."
Technology, innovation and future plans
Hyundai describes the Pune plant as one of its most advanced global facilities. It uses the company’s E-FOREST digital platform to integrate manufacturing systems. This includes AI-based quality inspection, predictive maintenance, digital simulations, and augmented reality-based worker training. AI-enabled systems also enhance workplace safety. The plant's people-centric design earned a 2026 Red Dot Award.
The flexible production lines can accommodate both internal combustion engine and future hybrid vehicles. While Hyundai does not identify specific hybrid models or a timeline for Pune, unconfirmed the next-generation Creta, expected in 2027, could be the brand's first Indian hybrid.
Hyundai is also working with seven leading Indian academic institutes on nearly 40 research projects. These cover battery technology, electrification, and future mobility. This forms part of a broader, earlier-announced $15.5 billion India investment programme for 2026-2032, focusing on manufacturing, R&D, and local supplier cultivation.
Venue production and global reach
Production at the Pune plant began in the fourth quarter of 2025 with the new Venue compact SUV. This model is manufactured exclusively at Pune for both domestic sales and export. Hyundai plans to expand its export reach from this facility to more than 35 countries, reinforcing India's role in its global operations.
Euisun Chung highlighted India as one of Hyundai’s most important strategic markets. The Pune plant, acquired from General Motors India in 2023, reflects the group's long-term commitment. Hyundai plans to scale the plant's annual capacity to 320,000 units by the end of the decade.
