Nissan Motor India closed September 2026 with total wholesales of 10,025 units, split between 3,300 domestic units and 6,725 exports. This performance saw Nissan's domestic volume double from the 1,652 units it sold locally in September 2025.

Renault India reported 3,399 domestic wholesales in September, up 20 per cent from August 2026. The near-identical domestic tallies for the two allied brands highlight a competitive push in the market ahead of new model launches.

Exports were the dominant force for Nissan. The 6,725 units shipped overseas represented about 67 percent of its total monthly volume, crossing twice its domestic tally. The company continues to serve international markets from India under its 'One Car, One World' strategy, which reinforces the country's role in its global operations by building products to consistent global standards.

Nissan attributed its domestic growth to strong customer demand across its expanding SUV portfolio. The company also cited continued expansion of its dealer network as a key factor. Saurabh Vatsa, Managing Director of Nissan Motor India, leads the operations.

Renault’s steady domestic growth and upcoming product expansion

Renault's performance in September contributed to a strong year-to-date figure. From January to September 2026, the brand's local sales reached 35,378 units, a 36.6 percent increase over the 25,886 units sold in the same period of 2025.

The brand is bolstering its lineup with new powertrains and models. Last month, Renault added a turbocharged 1.0L engine option to its Triber MPV. This seven-seater, which introduces the Renault Group Entry Platform to India, produces around 100 PS. Prices for this variant start at Rs. 7.84 lakh (ex-showroom).

A more significant launch is imminent. Renault will introduce the Duster E-Tech 160 on October 17, 2026. This model will mark the company's first hybrid powertrain for the Indian market.

Export initiatives and future product pipeline

Renault also resumed its export activities to Sri Lanka in September through AMW Motors. The first consignment of 100 vehicles, comprising the Triber, Kwid, and Kiger models, departed from Chennai. This move expands Renault India's international export footprint to 16 countries.

Looking ahead, both brands acknowledge the need to increase local sales further. This is in preparation for the planned arrival of more new products over the next financial year. Their pipelines include an A-segment electric vehicle and seven-seater derivatives of their respective midsize SUVs.

For now, Nissan's domestic sales are concentrated on three key models: the Tekton midsize SUV, the Magnite compact SUV, and the Gravite compact MPV. The Tekton, launched in early July 2026, has seen a modest reception in the market so far. Both automakers are positioning for a more intense phase of competition as they expand their offerings.
