BMW F 450 R Launch: New Entry-Level Roadster Specs
BMW Motorrad has launched the F 450 R, a 48hp parallel-twin roadster that replaces the G 310 R as its entry-level model.

BMW has introduced the F 450 R as its new entry-level roadster, replacing the discontinued G 310 R. The naked bike shares its platform and 420cc parallel-twin engine with the F 450 GS adventure model.
It is a standalone model within the BMW F 450 family, developed specifically for the 48-horsepower class. The bike is designed to be the brand's new gateway into its roadster lineup.
Engine and performance specifications
The BMW F 450 R is powered by a 420cc fuel-injected parallel-twin engine. It produces 48 horsepower at 8,750 rpm and 43 Newton-meters of torque at 6,750 rpm. A key feature is that 80% of that torque is available from as low as 3,000 rpm.
The engine meets Euro 5+ emissions requirements. Power is sent through a six-speed transmission, with final drive handled by an X-ring chain on the left side. Markus Flasch said: "The BMW F 450 R has everything that defines a true BMW naked bike: performance, precision, and pure riding pleasure."
Variants and standard equipment
The F 450 R is offered in four distinct variants: Base, Exclusive, M Sport, and M Sport with Innovation Package. All versions come with a comprehensive suite of electronic aids and connectivity features.
Three riding modes, Rain, Road, and Dynamic, are standard on every model. ABS Pro, Dynamic Brake Control, Dynamic Traction Control, and engine drag torque control are also universal. A 6.5-inch TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity, a USB-C port, heated grips, and full-LED lighting are included across the board.
The variants differ in their performance and comfort enhancements. The base model has the standard feature set, with Shift Assistant Pro (a bidirectional quickshifter) available as a retrofit accessory. The Exclusive variant adds that quickshifter as standard and includes Sport suspension with adjustable rebound and compression damping.
Both M Sport variants gain an individually configurable Dynamic Pro riding mode and an exclusive TFT layout that displays traction control, braking force, lean angle, and a lap timer. The range-topping M Sport with Innovation Package further adds the Easy Ride Clutch.
Chassis, ergonomics, and practical details
The chassis uses a tubular steel space frame, with the engine integrated as a load-bearing element. Suspension is handled by KYB components, with a 43mm upside-down telescopic fork at the front and a central spring strut at the rear, offering 140mm of travel.
Braking is via a 310mm front disc with a Brembo four-piston monobloc caliper and a 240mm rear disc with a ByBre single-piston caliper. The bike rolls on 17-inch lightweight cast-aluminum wheels, shod with a 110/70 front tire and a 150/60 rear tire. It features an underbelly exhaust.
Ergonomics are adjustable. The standard seat height is 790mm. An optional low seat reduces this to 775mm, while a high Sport seat increases it to 810mm. The ready-to-ride weight is 175 kilograms, which is 3kg lighter than the F 450 GS. Forged aluminum is used for the gearshift, footbrake, and side stand levers, and the shift pattern is reversible for track use.
Fuel efficiency, range, and real-world context
BMW rates the F 450 R's fuel consumption at 3.8 litres per 100 kilometres under the European WLTP test cycle. With its 14-litre fuel tank, the manufacturer claims a potential range of more than 350 kilometres on a single tank.
The company has provided the WLTP rating but notes that real-world range figures remain to be verified through independent testing. Markus Flasch added: "We have developed a motorcycle that inspires confidence from the outset while also generating a lot of excitement."
For context, the related F 450 GS adventure model has different specifications suited to its role. It features 180mm of suspension travel, a 19-inch front wheel paired with a 17-inch rear, and a high-mounted exhaust. The BMW F 450 R is now presented as the new entry point in BMW Motorrad’s roadster lineup, built on the F 450 GS platform with a focus on accessibility and performance.
