The Mercedes-Maybach S 580e has debuted in India as the brand's first plug-in hybrid model. Priced at ₹3.35 crore, the luxury sedan will be limited to just 30 units in its first allocation, with deliveries scheduled to begin in November 2026.

This launch marks Mercedes-Benz's third plug-in hybrid offering in the country. The vehicle is based on the facelifted S-Class and arrives in a single, fully-loaded S 580e 4MATIC guise for the Indian market. The company reports that around half of all S-Class sales in India are already Maybach variants.

Powertrain and performance

The Maybach S 580e combines a 3.0-litre inline-six petrol engine with a 160hp electric motor and a 22kWh battery pack. Total system output is rated at 585hp and 750Nm of torque, sent to all four wheels as standard.

The plug-in hybrid system enables an electric-only range of up to 100km, with a top speed of 140kph in EV mode. Mercedes-Benz claims a WLTP-certified fuel efficiency figure of up to 34.48 kmpl. The car supports AC charging at up to 11kW and DC fast charging at up to 60kW. Air suspension and rear-axle steering are standard equipment.

Lavish cabin and technology

Inside, the car features an exclusive four-seat layout. The executive rear seats recline to 43 degrees and include heating, ventilation, and massage functions. A full-length business console runs between them, part of the standard Rear Comfort Package Plus which also includes fold-out tray tables, wireless charging pads, and temperature-controlled cup holders. Two individual smartphone-style remotes control rear functions.

The dashboard is dominated by the MBUX Superscreen, which combines a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14.4-inch central touchscreen, and a 12.3-inch front passenger display with a privacy function. The system runs on the latest MB.OS software and features Maybach-specific graphical themes with rose gold accents. An augmented reality head-up display, a 31-speaker Burmester 4D surround sound system, and two rear entertainment screens with wireless headsets are also included.

Cabin materials include two-tone Nappa leather in crystal white and silver grey pearl, Maybach-exclusive Manufaktur piano lacquer trim, and a tailored roof liner.

Distinctive design and market position

Exterior updates for the facelift include a 20 percent larger grille with vertical slats, LED illumination, and an illuminated 'Maybach' wordmark. The bonnet features an illuminated three-pointed star, while the headlamps incorporate star-shaped daytime running lights with rose gold accents and the Maybach logo. The illuminated Maybach logo on the D-pillar and tail-lamps with a triple-three-pointed star LED signature are confirmed features. The India-spec model is 180mm longer than the long-wheelbase S-Class and rides on 20-inch forged Maybach wheels.

The closest rival is identified as the BMW i7, a battery-electric vehicle with comparable space and road presence. The Maybach S 580e commands a premium of approximately ₹97 lakh over the recently launched 'regular' S-Class Manufaktur Edition AMG Line.

Limited availability and sales context

Mercedes-Benz India is opening bookings immediately for the 30-unit allocation. The launch occurs against a backdrop of strong sales growth for the brand's luxury models. From January to September 2026, the company sold 15,190 vehicles, an increase of about 8% over the same period in 2025.

The July-September 2026 quarter was its best-ever in India, with 5,422 units sold. The company attributes this growth to festive demand, promotional campaigns, and new model launches. Notably, the top-end vehicle portfolio, which includes models like the S-Class, Maybach, G-Class, and AMG vehicles, grew by 13% year-on-year and now represents over 25% of total sales. The custom-built car programme accounts for about 75% of sales within this top-end segment.

Deliveries of the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class Plug-in Hybrid are scheduled to begin in November 2026.
