The Mercedes-Maybach S 580e plug-in hybrid has launched in India at Rs 3.35 crore (ex-showroom). This marks the first Maybach with a plug-in hybrid powertrain sold in the country and is Mercedes-Benz India's third plug-in hybrid offering. The initial allocation for India is limited to just 30 units.

Standard equipment focuses intensely on rear-seat luxury. The India-spec car comes exclusively in a four-seat First-Class rear configuration with individual Executive seats and a full-length business console. The Rear Comfort Package Plus is standard, adding fold-out tray tables, wireless charging pads, adaptive ambient lighting, rear MBUX controls, climatised seats, and temperature-controlled cup holders. Two individual smartphone-style remotes operate these rear functions, replacing the older tablet controller.

Powertrain and performance specifications

The S 580e combines a 3.0-litre inline-six petrol engine with an electric motor and a nine-speed automatic transmission, sending power to all four wheels via the 4MATIC system. The petrol engine produces 443 hp and 560 Nm, while the electric motor adds 160 hp and 480 Nm.

The combined output of 585 hp and 750 Nm propels the limousine from 0 to 100 kmph in 4.8 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 250 kmph.

Electric range, charging and efficiency

A 22 kWh usable battery pack enables a WLTP-certified electric-only range of up to 98 km. Pure electric driving is possible at speeds up to 140 kmph. Mercedes-Benz claims a weighted combined WLTP fuel efficiency of 34.48 kmpl for the plug-in hybrid system.

Charging hardware supports AC charging at up to 11 kW and DC fast charging at up to 60 kW. The company supplies a home charging solution with each car. The energy recuperation system is adjustable and includes a one-pedal driving function.

Chassis, technology and India-specific details

Technology highlights are comprehensive. The digital package features the new MB.OS software on an MBUX Superscreen, which includes a front-passenger display with a privacy function, a 3D driver display, augmented-reality navigation, and a head-up display. The chassis benefits from standard rear-axle steering, which can turn up to 10 degrees, and a cloud-based Airmatic air suspension that uses navigation data to pre-adjust damping.

Exclusive touches include an illuminated 'Maybach' wordmark above the grille, logo projection, and illuminated door sills. The Manufaktur specification adds Exclusive Nappa leather, piano lacquer trim, and a Nappa leather roof liner. A Burmester 4D surround sound system delivers 1,610 watts through 31 speakers and eight exciters. Safety is covered by an extensive package including MB.Drive Assist Level 2, pre-safe systems, Digital Light headlights, and 15 airbags.

Mercedes-Benz India stated, "The Maybach moniker accounts for roughly half of all S-Class sales in India." The S 580e joins the updated standard S-Class and the AMG E 53 Hybrid as the brand's plug-in hybrid models locally. Customer deliveries are scheduled to commence in November 2026.
